to the Section Paläoanatomie of the Staatssammlung für Anthropologie und Paläoanatomie Munich.

It is an institution of the Bavarian Natural History Collections (SNSB).

We are excited to announce that the Institute of Paleoanatomy, Domestication Research and History of Veterinary Medicine together with the State Collection of Anthropology and Paleoanatomy Munich are the "Twinning Members" of the month of the Zooarchaeology Laboratory in the Department of Archaeology at the University of Sheffield.

The Sheffield Zooarchaeology Lab is one of the leading archaeozoological facilities in the United Kingdom. The extensive Tony Legge modern reference collection forms the bedrock of the reference collection, thus also preserving the memory of an internationally esteemed colleague who died in 2013.

Umberto Albarella, Professor in Zooarchaeology and staff member of the University of Sheffield  since 2004, through his involvement in teaching and international events (congresses, collaborations, etc.) has made the institution a magnet for students and postdocs from all over Europe. Currently, Dr Lenny Salvagno, postdoctoral researcher from Sheffield, is conducting her research on changes in pig management from late medieval to early modern times in England and Bavaria at the Munich Institute and State Collection as part of her Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowshi.

Albarella and the Sheffield Zooarchaeology Lab promote international networking through the Twinning Action, which currently links 36 archaeozoological institutions (and counting!) from all over Europe and around the world: https://www.facebook.com/groups/888629061652950/discussion/preview

The basic idea of this action is to support each other, to make archaeozoology and the institutions working in this field better known to the public, to collaborate in joint projects, to give students and postdocs opportunities for further education, to intensify communication and information exchange. This is done in the spirit of collaboration rather than competition.
